Putt Money

Don't forget to pay for putts. Please put the money in the golf ball bank.

This year our charity is the Cascades Humane Society and according to this article published in the Jackson Citizen Patriot they are in need of donations.

Here is a little bit of what was said:

"The Cascades Humane Society was down to less than two days' worth of food as of Friday.

The Humane Society hopes community outreach will bring in at least 5,000 pounds of food or more to get through the remainder of the year.

At the shelter, it takes about 2,000 pounds of food to feed the animals for a month. On average, an adult cat needs 8 pounds of food a month and an adult dog needs 20 pounds, Carmody said.

``As fast as (food) comes in, it goes out,'' Carmody said. ``We can hardly keep it on the shelves.''

Sue Chambers, director of veterinary services at the Humane Society, said there are more people coming in for pet food, which the Humane Society provides to people who are in need."

It's not just people who are in need this summer with the economy on a downward spiral. Even our little quarters every week add up and can help.

LPGA Celebrity Auction

Over at Clothes Off Our Back they are Auctioning LPGA Golf items.

Not familiar with COOB? It's a charity organization started by Jane Kaczmarek ("Malcolm In The Middle") and her husband Bradley Whitford (“The West Wing”) that auctions off celebrity attire usually after a red carpet event.

LPGA State Farm Classic Auction

LPGA’s top athletes have donated golf apparel to raise money for Golf Fore Africa and Clothes Off Our Back.

Items up for bid include Betsy King’s shirt & vest; Michelle Wie’ shirt & hat; Natalie Gulbis’ golf shoes; 2 season passes to the 2009 Solheim Cup and more.

I've bid on the golf ball autographed by my favorite woman golfer, Se Ri Pak.

Hey, why no Laura Davies, my mom's favorite player?

AUCTION ENDS SUNDAY, JULY 27.

Michelle Wie disqualified

Wie disqualified over scorecard mishap

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP)—After finishing Friday and Saturday in second place at the State Farm Classic, Michelle Wie was one good round away from finally living up to her deep potential.

Then, minutes after tapping in her last putt of the third round, Wie sat red-eyed at a folding table in front of a couple dozen baffled reporters and photographers, explaining why she’d been disqualified from the tournament.

The 18-year-old, playing her best golf of the year, broke one of the game’s most basic rules: She failed to sign her scorecard before leaving the scoring area.

And with that, Wie was gone from a tournament where either the $255,000 winner’s purse or the $155,252 second prize would have put her comfortably within the top 80 money winners for the year—and virtually guaranteed her a place on the LPGA Tour next year.

Tour officials and other players, while sympathetic, said the signature rule is at the heart of golf’s honor system.

“Bottom line, we are held accountable to maintaining our scorecards and making sure that we attest the scorecard,” Kim said. “But it’s such a shame.”

Zach Johnson tied for 20th place.

He was last year's winner and TV coverage I saw only showed one shot of his. If you aren't a Woods fan, it's worthless to watch the Tour on TV, you won't see anyone else. Actually, even if he's not playing that's all the announcers will talk about.

What other sport concentrates only on one player?
Good luck finding women's events also.
